Waveform Music Player is not finding music on my hard drive

Last Updated:  |  Author:

If you want to listen to music stored on your hard drive using our Waveform Music Player app, your tracks need to include complete metadata, and their location must be indexed on your computer.

Please note that Waveform may not be able to find songs that have missing track titles and other essential metadata. If you have tracks in your library with missing information, check out our Music Tag app to download complete and correct metadata to your music files.

For Waveform to successfully load your songs, ensure that your music is indexed on your computer.

How to index your music folder on your computer

  1. Press the Windows button on your Windows taskbar and type "Indexing Options".

  2. Click the app that displays in the search to open the "Indexing Options" Window.

  3. Here, add your music folder which you want to be indexed.

  4. Once indexing is complete, clicking the "Refresh" button at the top right of Waveform should now allow it to detect those tracks.

How to index a drive on your computer

You can alternatively choose to index your entire drive. Please note that it is usually only recommended to index files you wish to be searchable by Windows Search as more files indexed can slow down the search process.

  1. To index your entire drive, go to "This PC" within Windows File Explorer, right-click on your selected drive, and select "Properties".
  2. There should be a checkbox at the bottom of the General tab that says, "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties".
  3. Once enabled click "Apply" at the bottom right and then "OK".

You may need to wait some time for indexing to complete - though Windows will not display the progress of this unless you go to "Indexing Options" mentioned above.

Once your files are indexed, you should then be able to find your music within Waveform. Remember to click "Refresh" in Waveform after indexing, so that it can find your newly indexed files!

Alternatively, we recommend trying our comprehensive iPhone management software, TouchCopy. With TouchCopy, you can play, manage, and back up your music from your iPhone to your PC or Mac with ease.
