Connecting your Android with Contact Transfer on your PC is usually a very simple process. To see how to scan Contact Transfer's QR code and connect via Wi-Fi, check out our quick start guide.
If you have trouble establishing a Wi-Fi connection after scanning the QR code, follow the steps below...
Ensure you are using the latest versions of both Contact Transfer (PC) and the Contact Transfer Android app.
Ensure that the Contact Transfer app is active on your Android device's screen. Do not close the app, switch to another app or allow the screen to go to "sleep".
Disable Mobile Data on your Android, as this can interfere with the Wi-Fi connection. Mobile data can be turned on again after using Contact Transfer.
Make sure that both your computer and your Android device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If they are connected to different networks, or different subnets, the connection will fail.
To check if your devices are on the same network, make sure that your phone's IP address is the same as the IP address of your PC (only the first 3 parts should match - the last part is your device's unique identifier). The IP address is an identification number assigned to each device connected to the Internet.
If your PC has multiple internet connections (e.g. Wi-Fi and ethernet), choose the IP address under the QR code that matches your phone's IP address by clicking on it as shown below.
Check that the Windows Firewall is not blocking the connection with Contact Transfer. It may also be beneficial to temporarily disable any VPN service you may be using, as this can interfere with a connection.
Finally, sometimes all that is required is a restart of your PC and your Android. Safely restart your devices, then try again.
